12 May 2010
So, you have been wondering about Regionals for Magic, where did they go? It is May, they should be here by now!
Well, they kind of are - a slightly different program, and a new name - National Qualifiers. Essentially this is what would happen if the old States Program and the Old Regionals Program got together and had a baby... seriously. There is ONE event in each state, and people now qualify for Nationals.
Different states have different number of players who will be awarded invitations to Nationals, fortunately for you dear reader, Illinois and Indiana each have 8 slots.
For a fun listen, check out Bill Stark's podcast interview with Program Manager of Magic The Gathering, Scott Larabee, of Wizards of the Coast as he explains the changes to the Nationals Qualifier / Regionals program.

To make the weekend event BETTER if you live in Indiana or surrounding areas, there is a Pro Tour Qualifier on Sunday in the same location as the National Qualifier.
Oh, and vendors - there will be vendors in each location to buy, sell and trade your Magic goodies with.
So, here are the links - get your Standard decks ready (check out the decklists in other articles here from the Masters Series events) - test them at Pastimes FNM and then get out to these great events this weekend! (Yes, there will be side events such as booster drafts and win-a-box events available at both locations)
